You’ve heard the term “put your oxygen mask on first”? Your own health needs to be prioritised too, or you may experience ‘burn out’ (stress, fatigue, anxiety, lack of sleep, frustration and mental and cognitive decline). Maybe you have reached this point already. As a caregiver your energy tank needs filling so you can take care of others and enjoy your own quality of life. Eating well, getting enough rest and exercising regularly are your keys to living well.
Our carer classes promote functional and cognitive fitness. Functional fitness refers to activities that support everyday life; having energy to care for your partner, enjoy your grandchildren, go on holidays or even just manage daily stress. Cognitive fitness promotes a healthy brain, to improve memory, think clearly and learn new things. Did you know that Care givers are 2x more likely to experience cognitive decline? We want to help you not just survive, but thrive!
To support carers even further, we’ve developed our Partner Connect™ Program, an 8-week fully subsidised initiative designed to provide essential knowledge and self-care techniques for those caring for a loved one with Parkinson’s. Through a combination of educational workshops and exercise classes, the program covers topics such as manual handling techniques, navigating the healthcare system, and strategies for maintaining intimacy in relationships. Carers will also enjoy sessions focused on their own well-being, including self-care strategies, dietary advice, and relaxation through Managing Stress and Burnout.
By taking part in Partner Connect™, you’ll not only gain the tools to care for your partner but also learn how to better care for yourself—mentally, emotionally, and physically. This program is about empowering you to thrive, not just cope. We invite you to join us on this journey toward better health and well-being.
